Teatro Carmen

Where:
Tucson, Arizona

Project Description:

RESTORATION AND REHABILITATION OF HISTORIC PROPERTY: Acquisition and planning for restoration, rehabilitation, and planned operation of a 1915 theatre, as art and culture venue located in Barrio Viejo. The property originally hosted Spanish-language stage productions, silent films, ballroom events, and boxing matches. It was then the home of the Pilgrim’s Rest #601 Black Social Club from 1937-1986. Plans call for the space to be reborn as a flexible capacity (250-300 seat) performance space with an attached bar and restaurant and exterior patio. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a landmark in the neighborhood.
